Spondylodiscitis with primary psoas abscess in a neonate.

چکیده
Primary psoas abscess is rare in neonates [1]. Spondylodiscitis, although reported in older children, is extremely uncommon in newborns [2]. Co-existence of these two conditions is even rarer and reported in adult patients [3]. We report a case of neonatal spondylodiscitis with primary psoas abscess following infection with methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), hitherto unreported in this age group.

Psoas abscess secondary to Pott's disease--an unusual presentation in a young child.
Psoas abscess in neonates and infants are rare. Primary psoas abscesses are said to be more common in young children. Limping, fever and abdominal pain has been described to be the way psoas abscesses usually present. The authors describe the unusual presentation and successful treatment of a young child with a unilateral psoas abscess secondary to advanced spondylodiscitis.

There remains no doubt that primary abscesses are due to a hematogenous spread due to bacteremia and secondary abscess occurs as a result of direct spread of infection from an adjacent structure [2,3]. A case of primary psoas abscess with spondylodiscitis was published earlier by us [4]. Hernández-Ros, et al. commented that all authors must use the recent classification criteria and accordingly...
متن کاملNocardia nova as the causative agent in spondylodiscitis and psoas abscess.
We describe here the first case of Nocardia nova spondylodiscitis accompanied by a psoas abscess due to spreading from pulmonary nocardiosis. Nocardia was cultured from all affected sites. After 1 year of an appropriate antimicrobial therapy and a surgical drainage of the abscess that was required, the patient's clinical condition had improved.

We report a case of Streptobacillus moniliformis spondylodiscitis accompanied by a psoas abscess in an 80-year-old man scratched by a rooster. S. moniliformis was identified from abscess fluid by use of 16S rRNA gene sequencing. After 18 weeks of antimicrobial therapy, the clinical condition of the patient improved.
